Did you know that according to a study done by The Chronicle of Philanthropy in 2012, Austin is ranked 32nd out of the 50 largest cities in the nation in per capita charitable giving? This is a big improvement over our ranking at the beginning of the 21st century when we ranked 48, but there is still a lot of room for growth!

Austin is a vibrant city with a personality all its own. Central Texans are passionate, driven, and generous volunteers of their time and talent. But that’s not enough. The biggest problem facing Austin Nonprofits is there is not enough money.

Our community is well known for cherishing its environment and local businesses, its time to nurture our home-grown nonprofits in the same way!

We depend on our nonprofits to meet so many of the Austin's most basic needs; but the shortage of funds for these organizations is creating large gaps in services.

This is where I Live Here, I Give Here steps in. Our main purpose is to connect people like YOU with the issues you care about and the Nonprofits that support them.

I Live Here, I Give Here is proud of the work we have accomplished since our launch in 2007. We connect the people of Austin with the causes they care about.

We partner with nonprofit groups so they can be more accessible to you. We spotlight specific needs in Austin every month to let you know how you can help.

I Live Here, I Give Here Identifies Austin’s Newest BIG Giver!
Leo Welder, donor to YMBL Sunshine Camps

It’s about the kids, not the brisket. But that didn’t stop Leo Welder from staying up all night to smoke over 100 pounds of brisket to make a Sunshine Camp event raise more money than history dictated. Not only did he become chief smoke master, but this event had no budget and Leo mobilized his network to donate food, beverages and drive up attendance.

With eight years of leadership with Young Men’s Business League’s Sunshine Camps, Leo has served in multiple positions, but nothing more passionate than instilling his love of philanthropy to other members of the organization. Leo organized a small team to create an individual fundraising system, which ultimately grew revenue from $40,000 per year to $400,000 per year. This tenfold budget increase allows YMBL Sunshine Camps to serve over 850 high potential, low income youth each year at no cost to the families.

This CEO of ChooseWhat.com, earned his philanthropic stripes from none other than Austin icon and noted philanthropist, Lowell Lebermann. Working for Lebermann following UT graduation, Leo learned first-hand the valuable lesson of community participation and being a part of something bigger than ourselves.

I Live Here, I Give Here’s Big Giver award recognizes those unsung heroes— individuals who understand that it takes each of us to offer leadership and financial resources to a cause to make our community thrive. This year, I Live Here, I Give Here received 32 nominations for The Big Giver and it was Leo’s passion for raising money to support the kids Sunshine Camps serves that ultimately was the secret sauce making him BIG Giver material.

Leo will be honored at this year's BIG Give Event! On Friday, September 27, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency Austin, the BIG Give Under the BIG Top will feature live music from White Ghost Shivers, savory fare, games and an impressive silent auction while we honor Leo and award the Mercedes-Benz of Austin $10,000 BIG Prize and the RetailMeNot $5,000 Little Prize to TWO nonprofits that excel at stewarding and thanking their donors.

Sponsorships available $500-$10,000.  Tickets will be available online soon.
